About the Department
This is one of the oldest departments in the college. It conducts honours and generic degree courses in the morning shift and generic courses in the day shift in both Bengali and English language. Faculty members consist of five teachers (four substantive and one SACT). Students are encouraged to participate in various activities held throughout the year, such as seminars, student presentations, celebrations etc. Every year , a good percentage of students secure first division. Many ex-students are currently pursuing masters in philosophy in different state universities.

Future Prospect for Students
The discipline of philosophy teaches you how to think clearly, a gift that can be applied to just about any line of work. In careers in public service, such as civil service and law, philosophy helps you breakdown some of the most complex problems in society and the world. The study of logic, one component of the discipline of philosophy, helps develop analytical reasoning skills that helps students to perform well in various competitive examinations. Besides, students can go on to become philosophers in their own right or teachers at different levels.
