About the Department-
The Department of Psychology was established in the summer of 2006, coinciding with the global celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Sigmund Freud, the Father of Psychoanalysis. This momentous occasion served as the inspiration for the department’s inception.
The emergence of the department marked a significant milestone, evoking a shared sense of reverence and intellectual curiosity among its founding members. United by a deep interest in understanding the intricate workings of the human mind, the faculty and students embarked on a journey of exploration and self-reflection. Thus, inspired by the worldwide celebration of Freud’s enduring legacy, the Department of Psychology came into being  embodying a commitment to advancing psychological knowledge and unraveling the complexities of human behaviour and experience.

Infrastructure-
A well-equipped psychology laboratory, furnished with a wide range of standardized psychological tests and instruments.
A comprehensive library collection, including both the college and departmental libraries, offering a rich selection of books and resources aligned with the academic syllabus and catering to the needs of both students and faculty members.

We aspire to be at the forefront of addressing emerging challenges in the field of psychology and to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of psychological science and practice.


Academic Activities-
The Department of Psychology actively engages students in diverse academic and co-curricular programmes designed to bridge theory and practice, foster critical thinking, and promote mental health awareness.
Regular debates and quizzes were organized to make classroom learning more interactive and stimulating.
Poster presentations on syllabus-based topics encouraged creativity, communication skills, and conceptual clarity among students.
The discussion method of teaching was consistently emphasized to ensure student participation and deeper engagement with psychological concepts.


Some Specific Academic Events-
18th June 2025 – The Department celebrated Autistic Pride Day 2025 through an awareness programme emphasizing neurodiversity, sensory sensitivity, and the triad of impairment. The event brought together both insider and outsider perspectives, fostering inclusion and promoting deeper understanding of autism within the broader community.

May-June 2025 – Students of Semester II successfully completed their 15 days (60 hours) internship at Antaragram, a reputed mental health organization, gaining hands-on experience in applied, clinical, and community psychology.

June-July 2024 – Students of Semester II successfully completed their 15 days (60 Hours) internship at Jadavpur Vidyapith(Nursery & Primary) of NCE Bengal.

October 2023 – On the occasion of World Mental Health Day 2023, the Department organized a series of interactive sessions and awareness activities aimed at promoting emotional well-being, reducing stigma surrounding mental illness, and encouraging open conversations about mental health.

May 10, 2023 – A special lecture and movie screening on “Prosody of Unconscious: A Reading of Cinema” was organized. Dr. Abir Chattopadhyay from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, S.A. Jaipuria College, delivered the invited talk exploring psychoanalytic interpretations of cinema.

June 29, 2020 – A webinar on “Dealing with Post-COVID Challenges through a Biopsychosocial Lens – Managing Our Thoughts, Emotions and Behaviour” was conducted, focusing on mental health awareness, coping strategies, and psychological resilience in the post-pandemic context.
